Anyone to the UK will quarantine for 14 days

On 25 April 2020, the UK government planned to request passengers who arrive in the UK to quarantine for two weeks due to the current COVID-19 crisis. This will apply to all passengers who are entering from outside of the UK and any British citizens returning from abroad.

More than 130 countries have introduced a different set of travel restrictions, quarantine and bans on travel from high-risk areas and a two-week quarantine on arrival has already been implemented in many countries such as Australia, China, New Zealand and South Korea.

Officials are planning to set up a scheme and enforce compliance next month, including large fines or even criminal prosecution.

The government also intends to launch a ‘track and trace’ strategy to identify and isolate cases of COVID-19 in the UK. It has been suggested that the authorities might visit registered addresses of arrivals to ensure travellers are not breaking their quarantine.
